I'd have him. Experienced enough and we're struggling in the HB department at the moment.

I can't see how this works for anyone. Doesn't do us any favours over and above a season, he wouldn't sign for a one year - feels a bit naff all round.
I have no doubt he wants a 2-3 year SL deal, he is getting to last contract territory, but we can't have a luxury passenger and have to build something for the 3-5 year period.

Depends on the contract terms. If it's a short deal until the end of the season or even in to next while we source a new half back then I don't have any issues. If we're keeping him on for any longer than that then the deal looks a little more off putting.

If the money is right I would take him but wouldn't pay over the odds. Him and Miller could go well with the likes of mcLelland and Rocky backing them up if we keep Rocky.

Experienced half. But the reality is that both Gale and he are off contract and I’d rather take Gale for 12 months as a natural organiser and kicker to be honest. Widdop strikes me as too much like Miller, the only benefit being he’s English and doesn’t count on the quota.

I’ve got a feeling next season will see us run with Miller instead of Trueman, and Hampshire instead of Richardson. That leaves one spot open for an organising half IMO, with O’Brien cover for full back and halves, and McLelland released too.

Why would we release mclelland? Didn't he sign for 2 years with option for a 3rd?

Two years with an option for another 2 years. I just don’t feel he’s going to break through and with O’Brien and Hampshire, he’s essentially 4th choice. He’s struggled with injuries this season. We may give him 12 months out on loan but I do think it’s just cap space that could be used elsewhere in the squad.

If we run into the new season with Miller, O’Brien, Hampshire/Richardson and McLelland I do genuinely worry we will struggle in the halves.

I had high hopes of Mclellend not sure where he's at with his injury or if he's had a setback

Very underwhelming if true.

He’s ambled and pranced through games for Wire that I’ve seen on the telly. Does ordinary things reasonably well.

Last year a disgruntled Wire fan posted somewhere that “Widdop needs to take a good long look in the mirror at himself” - another responded (with something along the lines of) “nah, that’s his problem. He needs to do less of that, worry less about his hair and concentrate on being and effective and very highly paid half back” - made me chuckle as it seems to sum him up for me. He’s also not slow to stand a have a laugh with opposing players straight after a defeat - call me old fashioned but that’s a red rag for coaches and supporters alike.

Is mclellend still injured with the same injury he had when we signed him, has he had a set back or was he always expected to be out this long when we signed him?

Pat apparently he's injured. I was speaking to a lovely gentleman , he told me Sutcliffe was his grandson.

Not sure on the injury status of a few players like Mclelland Oniell and Sutcliffe ...Sutcliffe didn't do much in the games I've seen him play
