Lots being written about the dwindling crowd at the Cup final and suggestions being offered up to change its format or venue. I went to my first in 69,beautiful day, packed house and everyone travelled in big numbers, but it was “the” game, even neutrals went year after year,it was rugby leagues big day out. That’s changed now,the Grand Final has become the big game, there’s the Magic weekend, the potential of trips to Tolouse,Perpignan,Paris if you’re a Wigan fan, even Las Vegas for the chosen two. Talks happening to have a double header in Dublin next season, all these opportunities we never had. All might increase the profile of the game as a whole but it will only diminish the standing of the challenge cup. Financially if for no other reason fans will have to make choices and sadly a day out at Wembley might no longer be it.
