We are rubbish. 2 wins all season
Hate to say this but we are a million miles away from SL standard. Championship side at best, trying to make silk purses out shows ears with average players ain’t gonna work.
I’m even starting to wonder if lingard is the right coach for us.
Early days I know, but 3 loses on the trot, conceding nearly 30 points a game.
Not good enough.
Maturecasfan Better than last year, Wigan averaged over 40 points against us over two games, Salford put 40 odd past us down the lane and I had the misfortune of watching us surrender in embarrassing fashion at Warrington. For all the faults of this team and the perceived lack of quality, Unlike last season I’ve not once questioned their effort and spirit. So Lingard has already got something out of the squad that Last and Radford couldn’t. I think he deserves longer.
At the moment we are rudderless, get Macca back directing the plays and the wins will come.
It took almost 6 years of decline to hit rock bottom and i think it will take just as long to get back up there.
There is steel in this squad and I am sure the wins will start to come .
I still predict 9th

Can not fault the effort and intensity, but just have not got the skill or ability in the squad to put points on the board.. We completed just about every set, but never ended them well. We need some playmakers back or we are going to struggle to ever score enough points to win any games.
We are probably going down under the IMG proposals anyway, but it will still be good to finish as high as possible to make IMG look complete idiots if they relegate us (or any other team) from a top 6 position.
pirate Absolutely, Joe was doing his utmost last night in terms of distribution but he needs a partner, Macca back would be huge for us in terms of creativity, the youngsters need steering round the field. I honestly think there is talent in this team, but this is a different level to what most have played at consistently, some will learn, improve and adapt others will fall by the wayside but that’s the way of it. Last season with Faraimo,Fonua,Widdop and the like, we had an ageing side on the wrong side of the hill, there was no improvement to be had. Second half last night our edge defence was massively improved, Lingard changed things at half time and the guys were learning on the job. A couple of quality players would no doubt help us, but they’re not coming so we are where we are. But no way should we be giving up on this lot yet, because they aren’t giving in unlike last year when at times it was embarrassing.
I don’t think we are that far off. Last season these matches would have been blow outs, losses by 60 with no points. So we are moving forward, though slowly.
We are bedding in so many new players and the club have said we are building for the future. I can see progression. Once we get macca and watts back and it dries up we’ll look stiffener in the middle. Hindmarsh and namo could be real class.
RaoulDuke Could be entirely different in a couple of weeks, until then the rest have to front up against Huddersfield. High hopes for Namo though Hindmarsh looks short of fitness from what I’ve seen of training footage. El Zakhem looks a handful and Horne to spell Macca at hooker could work well. Be interesting to see what Lingards idea of our best pack is once we have more options. Still concerned about the half backs but they might be better playing behind a more organised pack.
It would be easy to look at the games so far and think we are simply way off the mark, with no hope whatsoever.
However. there remains plenty of positives that may not need much tweaking to see better outcomes.
Set completion was high and whilst the end product may not be refined as yet, this is definitely are area that can be improved through training, helping the players get a better understanding of each other and their skill sets.
I believe Broady sees himself as a centre but for me he just isn’t involved enough when attacking. Last season he looked dangerous with ball in hand so it may be worth sticking him in the halves with Mellor in the centres to bolster defence.
El Zakhem looks a real positive, making yards and looking to off-load. Hopefully, there’s training work taking place to get the quicker men backing him up.
Hepworth horne and macca interchange and offer different things. My bench would be horne, putt, hall and a prop. That prop might be namo. That would be dynamic and then hall had a good pair of hands with horne and westy running off him.
Miller getting better and Richardson looking better aswell. We just need to keep patient.
FlatCapper there’s not much wrong with the team but they need to play their A game. If everyone faces as much as westy we’d be fine.
Can’t help but think that even with the six front row options we’ve got with his size, work ethic and ball handling skills Westy would be a better prop than any of them.
It won’t happen and there are probably many good reasons why not but at least this forum provides a safe space to throw out ideas for discussion without sufffering abuse. The NRL seem far more flexible in trying players in what wouldn’t be regarded as their “normal position” I admit successes are the exception rather than the rule but they do exist, and players like Sam Burgess,Ellery Hanley and our own Kevin Ward show transitioning positions can be successful.
I’m not sure what naming Westy at prop would gain?
As well as trying to organise, feed the outside backs, etc, he already does more than his fair share of driving the ball in centre field, scrummaging down in the front row and tackling everything that comes at him.
Mind you, when we do get Macca back, Westy will probably need a rest so he could play as George Griffin!
Talking about “resting” players, is this the season when players are only allowed to play in a limited nr of matches, or does that start next season?
FlatCapper I think we’d gain a fair bit in our current situation, Mustapha injured I believe,Griffin still out,Watts suspended, Namo according to reports still not quite ready, neither is Hindmarsh. That leaves Lawler,Kibula and Vete. Now that would be a worry.
