A couple of shocking decisions,the red card and the ball strip that wasn’t led to the second try. To be fair I think our effort has been top notch, defensively we’ve been decent apart from the error for the first try. Inexperience has shown at times but compared to some of the performances under Last this has been a breath of fresh air. Fatigue will obviously kick in down to twelve second half against quality opposition, we deserve better, sadly Mr Grant has taken that from us.

When we saw penalty, six again, penalty in the first two minutes the writing was on the wall.

To be honest, we never looked like scoring, but 4 or 5 poor refeerind decisions made a big differrnce to the score.

So scoring a try with 12 can be done.

Something fishy going on here. Grant makes a decision on a live viewing rather than the view the video ref who’s seen it from many angles at normal speed and slowed down. Not right that.

But he is happy with the watts red?

I get there’s some fine tuning but you’d get no or little criticism from going with the advice of the video ref.

We were in the game and it was finely balanced.

I do get what they are trying to do in protecting players,the danger for me is that if you continue chucking cards about like confetti you’re going to ruin the game as a spectacle. There will be exceptional games where good teams win when down to 12 men but for a lot of teams losing a player,as we did against a quality team like Wigan, it’s game over. I did see a suggestion that when a player gets a red he is excluded from the game but after ten minutes can be replaced. I’ve heard worse ideas, there is punishment and the team is weakened as a whole but from a spectators point of view they still get to see some competitive rugby.

It is an interesting idea - but more interpretation which is messy. In a situation where a dismissal is too much and you can replace in 10 minutes, the net effect is a sin-bin and no new rules required are there? Appreciate they’re subtly different.

I am willing on week 1 to accept Watts was clear direct contact with the head, whether intended or not - the bar is set.
Same for the tip, that’s the threshold.
On the watch back, I don’t think keeping Watts on the field was the reason we lost, but it might have been closer.

mdean Be interesting to see how the disciplinary panel react, if they go in heavy it could be carnage, hopefully they’ll apply a lighter touch but given their track record I can’t see it.

Hepworth They’ve reacted exactly how many of us expected. Smith and Ellis of Wigan have got nothing for attacking Hooley’s head, with Watts is now facing 4-6 game ban via the tribunal panel tomorrow.

Even Charlie Tasipale has got a game ban for something I can’t even remember or never noticed.

I have no idea how the game can resolve these issues but this is simply ridiculous. Either any contact with the head is a red and 4 games min or we go back to no video ref’s and/or recordings and tribunals.

The outcome is so subjective…

Of all the bad decisions the disciplinary have plucked out of a hat this week, Tom Amone at Leigh has got a 2 game ban for making a perfectly legal tackle.

It isn’t subjective, it’s all down to what shirt a player is wearing.

No Wigan, St Helens or Leeds players banned…plenty from the Hull teams, Cas & Leigh

It shouldn’t be subjective. Be clear, any head contact is a red and then assess it on review for severity whether the player is going down or not, just accept even if you accidentally bounce up off the ball a foot off the ground - unlucky.
If it is a tip, then the second the player is above the horizontal same.

Take the feeling out of it and make it easier for everyone, including Ref’s you’re not interpreting it, just applying the rules.

But the RFL will see nothing wrong with that.
