Breaking: rugby league in Britain WILL lower the legal tackle height to below the armpit following a trial this summer. Will be rolled out in community game next season before it is applied to the professional game in 2025. Part of 44 law changes aimed at making the game safer.

Looks like 2025 will be all about penalties and suspensions till the players adapt.
at 67, Its times like this that i feel lucky to have lived through the real RL years and not this new sanitised version of the game

Had a friend watch an Academy match at Leeds with the new rules in a trial. It was a penalty fest. About 50 penalties in each half.

I get what they are trying to do but when wearing a shirt, where is the armpit when the arm is raised, surely that’s above the shoulders. The neck was quite clear, we are now like the football offside rule.

Just make the penalty higher for a shot above the shoulder. Make it a yellow rather than a straight penalty, it would soon stop.

In two years time it will be no promotion and relegation, no jeopardy in any of the matches, touch rugby or 100 penalties a game and no one will be watching the sport live(including myself).

Also it’ll be 9 a side in some games, the slightest head touch you’ll either be sin binned or sent off.
I can see players sin binned right left and Center.

Players should sign a disclaimer if they want to play the hardest sport on the planet.
How you can avoid touching the head, especially the speed the players play is impossible.

I won’t be watching a game I don’t recognise.

so now we have another grey area where its at the refs discretion whether the tackle is on or slightly above the arm pits, what a mess our game is in?
